The Three Communities of Gespe’gewa’gi
The Mi'gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat (MMS) is an organization that represents the three Mi’gmaq communities located on the territory of Gespe’gewa’gi: Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj. An essential component of its mandate is to ensure community access to resources in order to benefit from economic growth.
For the three Mi’gmaq communities, the partnership with Innergex is the first agreement undertaken with an energy company enabling them to fully participate in the local development of wind power.
Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. is a leading independent renewable energy producer based in Quebec. It oversaw the development and construction of the wind farm in partnership with Mi’gmaq communities, and now manages the facility’s operating activities. Innergex has broad experience in completing successful renewable energy projects with strong community integration, while maximizing environmental protection. Its business model is based on the belief that building lasting relationships and sharing the economic benefits of renewable energy projects creates wealth and future opportunities for the host communities and partners.
